A garden is an area that, like every part of a home, should strike a balance between aesthetics and functionality.

In this project, we achieved a modern garden with a functional and harmonious atmosphere, incorporating leisure and relaxation areas, cool spaces for the hotter months, and an overall pleasant look and feel.

The garden of this house had always been a very well-cared-for space, but its full potential had not always been taken advantage of — and never before had so much attention been paid to every detail to achieve such a highly aesthetic result.

Adapting to the type of soil and to the temperatures of the area where you live is essential if you want to enjoy a beautiful garden. Translated to the Mediterranean, this means we must get rid of the image of the typical English garden with large expanses of lush green lawn. The Mediterranean garden is different — but no less beautiful.

Modern gardens like this one are open spaces in which neutral and natural colours play a key role, without losing sight of functionality and, above all, the site's characteristics, making the most of them. In addition, it is essential to consider who lives in the house and how they will use the space, because it is not the same if the garden is meant for entertaining guests, for meditation, or as a play area.

Some plants immediately transport us to a specific place. Aromatic herbs… bougainvillea… they take us straight to the Mediterranean. Prepared to withstand sun and lack of water, they are perfect for creating spaces with unique strength and charm.

Species that cope well with heat and drought were chosen — plants that do not need excessive watering. Even so, having an automatic irrigation system is important to control water use and ensure Mediterranean plants stay properly hydrated.

Finally, it is important to create shaded areas. For this, climbing plants such as wisteria, bougainvillea or jasmine are excellent, as they can cover porches, façades and pergolas. These cool, shaded environments can reduce our perceived temperature by up to 5°C… and in Mallorca's hot and humid summers, those degrees are a real delight.
